INEOS 1:59 Challenge — #NoHumanIsLimited

INEOS · 2019

Into the Blue was the creative force behind one of sport's most audacious challenges — helping INEOS build a global campaign around Eliud Kipchoge's attempt to run a sub-two-hour marathon. The result: history made, 25.2 billion impressions, and a hashtag that trended worldwide.

The Challenge

Eliud Kipchoge set out to achieve what many said was physiologically impossible: a sub-two-hour marathon. The challenge was not just athletic — it required a global communications campaign capable of building anticipation over months, mobilising world-class ambassadors, and delivering a live event moment that would capture the attention of billions. The brand needed a creative identity bold enough to carry the weight of the ambition, and a digital and social strategy that could sustain momentum from announcement through to the finish line in Vienna.

Our Approach

Into the Blue developed the full creative and campaign framework for the INEOS 1:59 Challenge — from brand identity and visual language to social content strategy, ambassador activation, and event communications. The #NoHumanIsLimited campaign was built around a simple but powerful idea: that the limits we accept are the only limits that exist. We created a suite of assets spanning social graphics, countdown content, athlete storytelling, apparel and merchandise design, and live event branding — all unified under a distinctive identity that fused the precision of sport science with the drama of a world-record attempt.

A Campaign Built for the Moment

The road to Vienna was mapped out as a content journey — from the announcement of the challenge through the selection of the Prater course, the reveal of Kipchoge's pacemaking team, and the launch of the #NoHumanIsLimited ambassador programme. Each milestone was treated as a campaign moment in its own right, with bespoke social graphics, countdown sequences, and athlete-led storytelling driving sustained global engagement across the months leading up to October 12, 2019.

#NoHumanIsLimited — Ambassador Activation

The campaign's ambassador programme brought together some of the world's most inspirational sporting figures — including Chris Froome, Elaine Wyllis, and Abdi Nageeye — each sharing their personal story of pushing beyond perceived limits. Into the Blue created the visual framework and content templates that gave every ambassador post a consistent, premium look and feel, amplifying the campaign's reach across multiple audiences and platforms simultaneously.

History Made in Vienna

On 12 October 2019, Eliud Kipchoge crossed the finish line in 1:59:40 — becoming the first human to run a marathon in under two hours. The live event branding, finish line graphics, and real-time social content delivered by Into the Blue ensured the moment landed with maximum impact. #NoHumanIsLimited became the 3rd top trending hashtag on Twitter globally, and the campaign generated 25.2 billion impressions worldwide.
